Liberton Ladies taste first defeat of the season

Updated: Oct 26

A gallant performance from our ladies in blue and red did nothing to dampen a sore 56 - 0 defeat at the hands of an impressive Livingston team. Read on to find out how it played out…

On a wet and muddy Sunday afternoon, Libby were confident going into this one, with a strong starting 15 and coming off the back of two impressive victories, it was a feverish atmosphere, with a partisan crowd baying for another W.

But alas, it wasn’t to be. Five minutes into the game, Liberton were hit with a huge blow as we lost Paula Fargas to injury and after a fantastic and sustained fifteen minute defensive display the visitors were able to get over the line for the first try of the day.

A high pressure game

Dusting themselves down and going again, Libby showed excellent heart and desire to stay in the game but the plaudits for this one have to go to a very deserving Livingston side who continued to apply the pressure to rack up the score.

Just before the halfway point, Livingston found themselves down to fourteen after receiving a yellow card for high tackling, highlighting the pressure cooker atmosphere and constant pressure from Liberton.

Big tackles, birthdays and a trio of new faces

Huge plaudits go to Rachel, who scooped the player of the match award and a special note for her exceptional tackling on the day, which would have seen a prime Jonah Lomu running for the hills.

This week also saw a very well deserved Dick of the Day, going to Tay for having the sheer audacity to have a birthday on match day. The cheek of some people.

We also welcomed new faces into the Liberton fold this Sunday with Hannah Young, Tilda Rhodes, Charlotte Harris and Hannah Ridgway who all played brilliantly and certainly earned their shirt.

We go again

A harsh final scoreline, which wasn’t truly reflective of how the game panned out, our ladies held their heads high and kept going for the full 80. Livingston hold the top spot, but with an away fixture coming up next week against Dundee (Sunday 31st October 2pm), Liberton will be looking to put this defeat behind them and make it a *spooktacular* third win for the season.

Once again, huge credit to Livingston and thanks for a great game.
